UNS — Since its determination as a State University with Legal Entity (PTNBH), the Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta keep expanding its collaboration and partnership with the international universities. International partnership is implemented through a webinar inviting international speakers, such as the one conducted by the Urban-Rural Design and Conservation Lab (URDC Labo), UNS Architecture Study Program.
URDC Labo organizes a discussion entitled the “Roles of Cultural Mapping for a Place Identity Revitalisation.” The discussion was conducted virtually through Zoom Cloud Meeting on Wednesday (24/3/2021), inviting Dr. Lee Yoke Lai, a Senior Lecturer of Built Environment, Department of Architecture Landscape, from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
In the discussion, Dr. Lee explains the steps to develop a cultural mapping to revitalize a region’s identity. Starting the discussion, Dr. Lee explains the definition of cultural mapping, the cultural mapping process, and the SWOT analysis in cultural mapping.
Further, Dr. Lee stressed that cultural mapping is not limited to the quantitative data but also the local community. “Cultural mapping does not only provide information on the map or system but also related to the local community. Therefore, the information collected is not limited to secondary data but also primary data collected through community interview and focus group discussion,” Dr. Lee explained.
The material delivered by Dr. Lee then become the discussion topic among the attending lecturers and students. Some participants asked for additional information regarding cultural mapping, which Dr. Lee answer directly. Humas UNS
