UNS — Expanding partnership implementation with the Cabinet Secretariat (Setkab) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, held a one-week Technical Education and Training (Diknisnis) for Scientific Works Preparation and Translation, starting from Sunday (19/6/2022) to Saturday (25/6/2022) at Nava Hotel Tawangmangu. This activity was attended by 20 participants consisting of translators representatives from ministries, agencies, and municipalities in Indonesia.

The Vice Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FIB UNS, Prof. Dr. Tri Wiratno, M.A., delivered the activity report through a welcome remark. Prof. Tri also outlined the purpose for which this Diknis activity was designed. “This activity is designed to provide knowledge, as well as experience for participants in linguistics and writing for scientific journals, as well as seminar materials,” he explained.

The Chairman of the Translator Development Center, Setkab RI, Sri Wahtu Utami, S.IP., M.E., added that synergy is indispensable to preparing competent translators. “FIB has qualified teachers in language translation science, therefore, we hope that participants can have excellent experiences from this activity. Hopefully, in the future, participants will be able to produce useful scientific work for the community,” she explained.

FIB UNS Designated As The Organizer for Translator Functional Officers Technical Training

The seminar was opened by the Dean of FIB UNS, Prof. Dr. Warto, M.Hum. According to him, this activity can be the means of Pancasila values implementation. “Welcome to Tawangmangu. Besides its beauty, this area also has historical stories about the Prabu Brawijaya’s moksa, most importantly, Tawangmangu becomes the witness of our history in implementing Pancasila values through collaboration on improving translator’s competency,” said Prof. Warto.

The first material session was delivered by the Professor of English Literature FIB, Prof. Drs. Riyadi Santosa, M.Ed., Ph.D., with the material entitled “Language Research,” followed by the second session on the same day, delivered by the FIB Professor of Language Translation Sciences, Prof. Drs. Mangatur Nababan, M.Ed., M.A., Ph.D., who delivered material entitled “Translation Research.” Humas UNS
