UNS — The Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) International Collaboration and Services (International Office) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta hosted an event entitled “Hello UK: Education, Exhibition, and Consultation” at the Indraprasta Room UNS Inn on Monday (20/6/2022). At this event, UPT Collaboration and International Services UNS collaborated with Indonesia Britain Education Centre (IBEC), an education consultant in Jakarta. IBEC’s main task is to provide comprehensive information and guidelines to prospective Indonesian students who wish to continue their education at various universities and colleges in the UK, at the same time taking care of students’ application submission and departure preparation to the destination universities.

There are eight campuses that participated in this event. They are the University of Birmingham, the University of Exeter, the University of Glasgow, The University of Manchester, the University of Nottingham, Queen’s University Belfast, the University of York, and the University of Sussex. Participants of this event are students, lecturers, and UNS academic support staff. The participants can ask questions and consult their dream universities regarding various points that are poorly understood.

Also attending the event was Satyadhi Hendra as IBEC Education Division Manager. When met by the uns.ac.id team, he hoped that education and opportunities to pursue study abroad could be evenly distributed for universities throughout Indonesia. “Funding from the government is still uneven. I mean, most of the information about further studies can be easily found at universities in metropolitan areas, while the remote regions are still lacking. Thus, IBEC wants to provide the broadest information,” Hendra explained.

On the same occasion, Hendra also shared a message to students and lecturers who want to continue their education abroad. First, language. Anyone who wants to go abroad, especially in the UK, must definitely have adequate English proficiency, thus, Hendra emphasizes to start learning English intensively. Second, anyone interested in studying abroad should be willing to open up the widest possible options. Lastly, they must dare to try.

The event Managing Committee, Feri Setyowibowo, S.E., M.M., Ph.D., encourages UNS academic members to always follow the latest information regarding education abroad through UNS UPT International Collaboration and Service social media. “For the latest information on overseas education, scholarships, and international events. Please follow the UNS International Office social media,” said Feri. The UPT social media account can be found on Instagram under the @internationalofficeuns handle.

Encouraging UNS Academics to Pursue Study in the UK, UPT KLI UNS Hosted Education Exhibition

Additionally, Fery reveals the objective of these types of events is to open the broadest possible information to the UNS academics regarding education abroad. This effort aims to achieve the institution’s Key Performance Indicator (IKU), specifically the fourth indicator for fifty percent (50%) of UNS lecturers to hold a doctorate degree. He added that the UNS International Office would hold another event regarding overseas scholarship information in cooperation with UNS Career Development Center (CDC).

One of the participants of this event, Fatiha Najma Yustisia, an alumnus of the English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), admitted feeling grateful for this event.

“I can strengthen my decision on my future campus. I was really helped (by this event) because UNS does help its graduates or students to be able to take opportunities and study abroad,” said Fatiha. Humas UNS
