UNS — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organizes an Evaluation on the 33rd National Student Science Week (Pimnas), which is organized in Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) last November 2020. This evaluation was conducted on Tuesday (15/12/2020) at Assembly Room in FMIPA C Building and available virtually through Zoom Cloud Meeting. With a total of 10 (ten) teams from FMIPA UNS participated in the 33rd Pimnas 2020, FMIPA becomes the faculty with the most representative compared to other faculties from UNS.
However, several aspects need evaluations for a better outcome. As mentioned by the Dean of FMIPA UNS, Drs. Harjana, Ph.D., even though FMIPA is excellent at faculty level PKM, this condition is not evenly distributed at a program level.
“Even though we (FMIPA) are excellent at the university level, but this achievement is not evenly distributed at a program level,” explains Dr. Harjana in front of the students and supervisors who passed Pimnas selection.
Based on this evaluation, there are several actions needed to improve PKM achievement, among others are the need for an expert team aside from the supervising lecturers to optimize students’ potential. Moreover, a recognition scheme to acknowledge the PKM topic, which passed the national selection, as an undergraduate thesis is crucial.
“Similarly, in preparing the PKM, students must obey the principles and administrative discipline. All aspects required in the manual must be followed in a disciplined manner,” he adds.
In line with Marcus Saputra, one of the gold medalists in 33rd Pimnas 2020 from Physics Study Program FMIPA UNS, the winning teams are not easily defeated from any aspects, be it during the question and answer sessions, or in a poster presentation. Marcus also advised the supervisor team to equip students in presentations preparation and how to answer the question from the board of juries. “The answer from the team should convince the juries,” Marcus said.
The event was ended with a handover of appreciation to the students and PKM supervisors succeeded in Pimnas 2020. Humas UNS
