UNS — A clinical psychologist, Ega Asnatasia Maharani, S.Psi., M.Psi., discussed “A Balance Life Full of Well-Being” theme in the “Charity Webinar Diamond 2K21”, a webinar held by Kasrat de Geneskundee Faculty of Medical Science (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) on Sunday (30/5/2021).
Ega stated that a balanced life is similar to riding a bicycle. To maintain balance in riding a bike, a person needs to continue pedaling, sometimes stop, sometimes went through a sharp turn, or even fall. A balanced life is the same, in the form of a way of thinking and attitude in daily life. Ega said that there are habits that need to be developed to achieve a balanced life.
The first point is to live fully by integrating all aspects of life. For example, doing an assignment is not merely to fulfill a responsibility. A person needs to see the assignment as a medium to develop their characters and way of thinking. The next point is an adaptation with various conditions. But do not set a target for everything to run perfectly because something unexpected will always occur. Third, set a time for personal interest to develop and do not stay fixated on the book. Then, to be able to say no or not now, and to make a priority scale.
“Trust others, if possible delegates (it to them). Then, choose which one you should let go of because it is other people’s fields,” Ega explained.
It is also essential to organize jobs into detail or orders to avoid multitasking. This habit will make time usage more efficient, but this should not come off as forced. The last point is to develop a balanced way of thinking and practice being in the moment, focuses and being present in each job you are working on. “Balance is in our mind. It is not about sharing the cake. It is useless if we just set time for each of our jobs, but when we are doing one job, we are thinking about another job. That means we do not train ourselves to be in the moment,” Ega said.
To achieve a balanced life, a person also needs to determine what aspect they tried to control, the situation, action, emotional response, physical response, or thought. First of all, they need to decide if they could change the situation. For example, if they have the right to opt-out from an activity, a choice to exit a group that disturbs their balance. However, not all situation is under control, sometimes a person must work with the team, and a member could not attend. Negative emotions will appear, but it is essential to be aware that this situation is outside of their control. In this kind of situation, they should manage their behavior and think about the aspects that could be changed, unlike emotion, which is hard to change. Do not force positive thinking because it could cause a false positive.
“If we do not control, we will always be emotional. Forcing everything must be okay. Trying to look okay. It will be dangerous in the future,” Ega concluded. Humas UNS
