UNS — Group 210 of Student Community Service Program (KKN) Thematic Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta helps the local community in managing the spatial layout in the Kanyen Hamlet, Sonorejo Village, Sukoharjo Sub-District, Sukoharjo District. The group contributed to the community through two programs that they implemented with help from the local community. The programs are creating a vertical garden and installing an informative news board implemented gradually from Wednesday (30/08/2021).
Under the supervision from Dyah Yuni Kurniawati, S.Sn., M.Sn., Group 210 has nine members: Agif Ikbal Galang Fauzi (Pancasila and Civics Education Program), Afra Galda Nadira (Industrial Engineering Program), Fuad Ashari Wasono Adi (Sociology Anthropology Education), Nurcholis Ayubi (Economics Education Program), Qonita Yusrin Luthfiati (Law Science Program), Safrida Irawati (Early Childhood Education Program), Shofia Zain Akbar (Geography Education Program), Sholikha Eka Khusnul Qotimah (Agro Technology Program), and Suci Purnama Devi (Accounting Program).
To uns.ac.id, Agif Ikbal, as Team Leader, explained that the Vertical Garden created by his Team in Taman Wijaya Kusuma is an education media for the community on utilizing used plastic bottles. The team collected the bottles from the people in Kayen Village and planted heat-resistant plants such as cantik manis, krokot, regmo putri, and sirih lemon. These plants also maintain air humidity, reduce dust, repel mosquitoes, and neutralize the bad smell.
“This program aims to manage and develop Taman Wijaya Kusuma as a public space yang that can be enjoyed by all community members, especially in Sonorejo Village,” Agif Ikbal explained.
Group 210 KKN UNS explained that the planting media is a mixture of 1:1 soil and organic fertilizer put into used plastic bottles. The bottles are then arranged on a vertical surface using a string before the bottles are decorated with various pictures and colors. The group also educates the community on the need for health protocols implementation in preventing the spread of Covid-19. Therefore, the group also equipped the park with an informational board on the importance of health protocols and encouraging people to be disciplined in implementing the health protocols. The board was designed both as educational media and an aesthetic photo spot for the park visitors.
Another program implemented by the group is creating street name information as a vital component of spatial management. This idea appeared after the members were concerned with the lack of directions in the village, which might poses difficulties for a newcomer to find an address. The result of discussion with the local community agreed on the street name: Pandhawa and four alleyways: Bima, Madukara, Puntadhewa, and Teratai. The group also created a limiter for five RTs in the hamlet. Humas UNS
