UNS – Money laundry has been developing sophisticatedly. It drives national and international institutions to work hard in solving this problem. Therefore, Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) in cooperated with Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta conducted national seminar and stadium general about “Law Aspect in the Sector of Financial Services” at the hall of Law Faculty (FH) UNS on Monday (9/10/2018).

Money Laundry Increasingly developing, OJK Encourages UNS to Bear Finance Law Masters

The invited speakers were Kardjono Atmoharsono (Indonesian Ministry of Justice and Human Rights), Zulkarnain (OJK), and Hartiwiningsih (The lecturer of FH UNS). Wimboh Santoso as the commissioner of OJK was appointed to be the keynote speaker.

“There are a lot of cases in terms of finance and many of them are uncompleted. It depends on the Law authors, neither economic nor OJK. It would be solved when the Approach Law and Legal is fixed,” Wimboh said in front of hundreds of students.

He then gave an example of money laundry. According to him, it is a way to hide or camouflage the origin of the money or the wealth in order to make it seem legal. This crime is the most dominant way done through transferring money from criminal acts to bank and bursary effect in the form of deposit, stock, obligation, and many others. Society who does not understand of this are at high risk to be the victim of this crime.

Giving education about this mode of crime plays an important role to make them aware about all the risks of Criminal Money Laundry Act (TPPU). One way to realize this mission is by conducting such a seminar at UNS campus. Wimboh hopes that this event will drive the students to be law masters in the sector of finance.

“This (the seminar) is important because Indonesian Financial Transaction Report and Analysis Center (PPATK) and OJK socializing massively to regional areas are impossible to conduct. By cooperating with universities and the lecturers, society may be more aware of obeying the law. It is because the modes of this crime are increasingly developing,” Wimboh explained in front of the journalists after the seminar.

Although there has been already law regulating this case, however, the enforcement runs not maximally. On his speech, Hartiwiningsih mentioned some factors that comes from internal and external sectors of the obstacles of its establishment. Firstly, the internal factors involve individual ability in understanding the law, moral, and commitment of law and justice enforcement. Secondly, the external one covers the justice performance, authority intervention, and conflict of interest.

“For example, the legislation number 43 year 2015 regulates every profession to report their finance transactions where it contradicts to its ethic code. However, the regulation of the ethic code is at the lower position. Thus, we need to obey the higher rule and its legislation must be obeyed and the ethic code should be adjusted,” she said.

The hundreds of students seemed very enthusiast heeding the material of the speakers. Many questions were asked during the seminar.

Ravik Karsidi as the Rector of UNS also came to deliver his speech and support this seminar. OJK would socialize continuously in Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economy and Business and probably in all faculties.

“It matters because the lecturers and all staffs of UNS are the subjects that should obey the law. There are many platforms that will be conducted cooperated with colleges, especially UNS,” Wimboh said. Humas.red-uns/Imr/Dty
