UNS – Arabic Language and Literature Program Student Association Faculty of Social Studies (FIB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Qisar held an online discussion on photography under the theme of How To Shoot Like A Pro, Saturday (11/7/2020) through Google Meet platform. This discussion invited Ziyadatul Choirina Ayustin, a photography freelancer, and moderated by Irfan Faishal Ridwan staff of Communication Qisar. Ziyadatul shared tips and trick surrounding photography started with the definition of photography as a process of painting through light as a medium.
Before entering the photography world, someone must comprehend the parts and its function in a camera. For example, there is a power switch that has a function to power on and off the camera, shutter to take picture, command dial to set the shutter speed, ISO, and diaphragm and white balance. There is also the ISO button to set the intensity of light that enters the camera, aperture to set the intensity of light, the menu for all settings, and operation in the camera such as to set the auto-focus, image quality, and flash.
In taking a picture, there are several picture compositions and techniques. This composition is a harmonic unity of the supporting elements by setting the right composition in the right place. Ziyadatul explained that these compositions are the rule of thirds, golden shape, symmetry, repetition and pattern, perspective, frame in frame, leading lines, negative space, golden spiral or golden ratio, reflection, motion blur, and fill the frame.
Ziyadah added that before taking a picture of an object, a photographer needs to pay attention to the texture, colors, and the depth of field. The texture will be seen from the dark and light, contrast, or shadows from lighting during the photo sessions. Color is an important part of photography because it gives a beautiful impression on a photo when it is well composed. The depth of field means the distance in the photo object to create sharpness variations or focus on the photos produced. Humas UNS
