UNS — Cooking oil waste rarely received attention from the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) and is often disposed of without prior processing. This practice could pollute the environment. Concerned with the procedure, the Islamic Economy and Finance Research Group, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a Community Service Program (PKM) on the use of cooking oil waste in Wates Village, Simo Subdistrict, Boyolali District

The team was led by Dr.Falikhatun, M.Si., Ak., and has three members Prof. Dr. Salamah Wahyuni, SU, Dr. Muthmainah, M. Si., Ak., and Dr. Muchammad Cholil, MM. The team conducted assistance and training in Wates Village Hall on Wednesday (7/7/2021). The program was attended by villagers, SMEs, and the Wates village government. Through the training and assistance used cooking oil was processed into candle and soap.

As reported from feb.uns.ac.id website, Falikhatun stated that used cooking oil from small industries in the village is often disposed of without processing. In contrast, the oil could be processed into side products, such as cleaning products for floors or goods. But it cannot be used for a shower.

“Besides cleaning products, SME could also create a candle from used cooking oil,” Falikhatun explained.

Then the ability which is related to one’s intellectuals could be improved through diligent and patient learning and training.
