UNS – Tasya Ayu Oktayana, a student from the Javanese Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) class of 2017, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, initiates a platform or educative movement entitled ‘Si Ojan’. The platform name ‘Si Ojan’ is an abbreviation from ‘Sinau Jawa Bebarengan (Learn Javanese Together) and aims to share Javanese-related knowledge such as language, culture, and many other aspects within it.

To uns.ac.id, Tasya explains that ‘Si Ojan’ is started from her wish to share the knowledge she earns during university life. According to her, Javanese language and culture are interesting to learn and are full of meaning and good life value. Unfortunately, there are many things that the general public might not understand, especially children.

“The value promoted by ‘Si Ojan’ is initially just want to introduce and preserve the language, culture, and Javanese script in which there is a philosophical sense. Mainly in the formation of virtuous character,” explains Tasya, Monday (29/6/2020).

During its initial activity, ‘Si Ojan’ uses Instagram as a Javanese knowledge sharing platform, presented in various designs. Moreover, ‘Si Ojan’ also present in the form of an online discussion entitled ‘BBJ (Babar Bab Jawa-Complete Javanese) Class’ and ‘Micara (Speech)’, which collaborate with Javanese language and culture activists. Several topics discussed are regarding the relevance of Tembang Dolanan (t/n: a special song sang by children while playing certain games) as children’s character education, Beksan (dance) in Javanese culture, and Javanese script characters along with its philosophy. The reception for ‘BBJ’ and ‘Micara’ is very good, both among students, lecturers, school teachers, and students.

“There are many support and inputs for the next topics from the netizens. Next, there may be a discussion on ‘Ringgit (shadow puppet)’ and ‘Sengkalan (t/n: a marker of time, in a form of a tangible set of words that refers to a certain set of numbers). We will also develop Javanese language implementation in education,” Tasya adds.
Not only online education, at the end of 2019, ‘Si Ojan’ also serves as a facilitator in ‘Taman Belajar Anak Hebat (TaBAH)’ in Putri Cempo Rusunawa, Surakarta. At TaBAH, ‘Si Ojan’ teaches the children every Friday afternoon on a certain topic compiled in an interesting simple curriculum.

Starting with a self-managed program, now Tasya is helped by her four colleagues to manage ‘Si Ojan’, they are Pratiwi and Rosi for managing the learning program in Rusunawa, as well as Riski Fidiana and Alin Rizky who help in Event Management and Development. The program is also supported by the Faculty members in the Javanese Language Education Study Program.

Various collaboration also established between ‘Si Ojan’ and other communities, such as MGMP in the Javanese Language for MA in Solo Raya, during the discussion regarding ‘Carakan Card’ usage in Javanese script instructional media. Humas UNS/Kaffa/Dwi
