UNS — Two students of International Relations (HI) Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta successfully brought home two awards from two categories in the 32nd National Meeting of International Relations Students in Indonesia (PNMHII XXXII) held for five days between 3 – 7 November 2020. These students are Sanggam Napitupulu (HI 2019) and Madda Asyafa Putra (HI 2018). PNMHII XXXII event was held online through YouTube and Zoom Meeting by Indonesian International Relations Student Communication Forum (FKMHII) hosted by Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY).

Sanggam participated in the Chamber Video Competition category and obtained 1st position. This category raised the theme of “The Role of MSMEs in Advancing Indonesia National Economy”. In his written declaration on Saturday (14/11/2020), Sanggam made a basic video of argumentation as a prolog for his presentation in the competition. He discussed a flashback on MSME’s role in reviving Indonesia economy after the 1998 crisis and its role in absorbing the workforce until its contribution to Gross Domestic Products (GDP).

Inspired by this history, Sanggam decided to raise the topic of MSMEs and invited his mother to collaborate in his work. His mother, an entrepreneur, has an MSME in culinary services, “Dawet Mbak Noeg”. This made the production process easier for Sanggam because the talent and object of discussion are close to him, therefore, it is more flexible for him in terms of the production process. Sanggam stated that other reasons why he chose to document his mother’s business is the correctness of the information that will be conveyed. “I am very coutious in using social media, thus, by choosing to document MSME Dawet “Mbak Noeg”, I am pretty sure of the correctness of the information,” Sanggam stated.

In the Press Corps category, Madda won the second position. Madda felt grateful because it is been a long time since Madda participated in a competition to represent his alma mater in journalism. To uns.ac.id team, Madda stated that the Head of International Relations Program and the Chairman of HI FISIP UNS Student Association have important roles in his journey to achieve the award. These people are those who recommended Madda to be brave and try to take this opportunity. “I am very grateful to win second place in PNMHII moreover it is a national event. And it is not often that I win a competition; thus, this is a precious moment for me,” Madda stated. Madda also shared a message for his fellow students to not feel inferior in participating in a competition. Even without experience, there is no harm in trying, he also stated that students need to keep honing their skill and participating in the competition that they like.

PNMHII XXXII this year opened 5 categories of competition and two events. HI Program UNS sent 11 representatives to participate in all categories, including the Forum Session (not for competition), Joint statement forum (not for competition), Dreamwork summit, Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Diplomatic Course, Video Competition, Paper Presentation and Press Corps.
