UNS – The Vocational School (SV) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organized Sign Language Training. The training activity took place in the Meeting Room of SV UNS on Wednesday (5/7/2023). The training will be conducted in 11 sessions every Wednesday and Friday. The training was attended by the Dean, Administrative Coordinators (TU), Sub-Coordinators, Lecturers, Administrative Staff (Tendik), and Students.
“This sign language training activity is carried out as a form of SV UNS’s support for students with disabilities at SV,” Drs. Santoso Tri Hananto, M.Acc., Ak said as the Dean of SV UNS, Friday (7/7/2023).
Furthermore, starting in 2022, SV UNS has admitted 6 students with disabilities and each year SV UNS will accept students with special needs. In addition, since 2022, SV UNS has appointed two professional sign language interpreters. They have also appointed six Peer Companions as interns who are responsible for assisting the six students with disabilities at SV UNS.
“Meanwhile, the purpose of our sign language training is to enable the Deans, Administrative coordinators, Sub-coordinators, Lecturers, Administrative Staff, and Students to understand deaf culture and basic sign language, so that we can continue to improve our services to students with disabilities,” Santoso continued.
The sign language class schedule begins with an orientation lesson on sign language introduction, greetings and self-introduction, days or months and numbers, colors, fruits, interpersonal relationships, family, relationships within the university, learning equipment, and university.
