UNS – After the inauguration of the two Professors last week, the Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta adds three new professors. The new professors are Prof. Dra. Diah Kristina, M.A. Ph.D., a professor in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) from the Faculty of Cultural Study (FIB), Prof. Dr. Eddy Heraldy, M.Si., a professor in Chemistry from the Faculty of Mathematics and Science (FMIPA), and Prof. Dr. Drs. Mulyanto, M.Pd., a professor in Out of School Education in Art from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP).

In the inauguration ceremony that will be conducted on Tuesday (21/01/2020), in GPH Haryo Mataram, Prof. Dra. Diah Kristina, M.A. Ph.D., who is the 24th professor in FIB and the 213th professor in UNS, will deliver a speech in the Establishment of “Verbal Branding” for Product and Service with English For Specific Purposes (ESP). Prof. Diah mentions that in her research on English for online tourism promotion in Jawa Tengah, she found that most of the promotional narration is still descriptive and informative. It is clear that there was a lack of variety and creativity in building a narration in English. Compound and complex sentences are rarely found, in average content writers prefer short and simple sentences.

English narration is more focused on the geographical condition, natural beauty, and historical background of attractions. While this information has been widely available and scattered in various sources such as Wikipedia, Google search engine, and other travel guides.

“Ideally, promotion narrative should contain stimulus that can move and influence the reader to visit the tourist destination being promoted,” Prof. Diah said during pers release in Ikan Goreng CIanjur, Monday (20/01/20).

The rapid development of information technology should make the promotion of products and services in English become freer to cut through distance, space, and time. With more than half of the earth population have access to the internet, the opportunity to build a promotion is widely open. The main problem is English narrative as verbal branding has not taken seriously. By considering the objective of the narrative, the needs of internal and external users, the value that needs to be massively and consistently highlighted, the benefit promised to the buyers, thus a strong branding can be established.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. H. Eddy Heraldy, M.Si., who is the 17th professor from FMIPA and the 214th professor in UNS, will deliver an inauguration speech entitle “Utilization of Operation Waste from Steam Power Generator for a Sustainable Development”.

“I choose this topic based on the fact that the government until 2028 will still rely on coal-fueled Steam Power Generator as the main alternative to meet the electricity needs of the community,” Prof. Eddy said.

Moreover, this topic is chosen to strengthen the realization of the harmonization of environmental management during the operational activities in Steam Power Generator. This speech is related to several of Prof. Eddy’s previous and current research, regarding the utilization of the operational waste of Steam Power Generator into a hydrotalcite-like material, which initiated from 2005 until now, as well as research on struvite synthesis and research on zeolite W or Merlinoite-like construction.

“From the research on the utilization of Steam Power Generator, I have produced 1 patent with a Patent certificate No. IDP000042132 on the Construction of Hydrotalcite-lie compound from Brine Water as Transesterification Catalyst of palm oil to be Biodiesel. Additionally, I have published an article entitle Preparation of struvite from desalination waste in the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering that published by Elsevier (Q1-reputable journal) indexed by Scopus and national accredited journal,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Drs. Mulyanto, M.Pd., who is the 63rd professor from FKIP and 215th professor in UNS, will deliver a speech entitled “The Training Model for Batik Design Development in Small and Medium Enterprises”

Prof. Mulyanto mentioned that the training model proposed for the development of batik design in small and medium enterprises consists of four stages: analysis of craftsman needs, training program planning, work facilities and infrastructure planning, and the process of implementing the training activities.

“The training implementation activities need to be supported by a relevant facilitator and the final product must refer to the consumers’ need, thus the final product will have the expected impact,” Prof. Mulyanto explained. Humas UNS/ Dwi
