UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta inaugurated two other professors online on Wednesday (15/7/2020). The two professors are Prof. Dr. Tri Wiratno, M.A. from the Faculty of Social Studies (FIB) and Prof. Dr. Ir. Wahyudi Sutopo, ST, M. Si from Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS.
Prof. Dr. Tri Wiratno, M.A. is the 222nd Professors in UNS and 25th Professors in FIB UNS delivered an inauguration speech on ‘Living and Understanding Life Through Text in a Functional Systemic Linguistic Perspective’. Prof. Tri Wiratno conveyed that in daily life, a human cannot break away from the text. Text accompanies human from birth to death. From birth, parents provided their children with a birth certificate, and upon one’s death, the family provided a death certificate.
In the society, people perform their activities through text, for example, cooking instruction, application of driving license, drawing money from ATM, people applied written procedure with steps that must be followed sequentially. In education, students deal with final assignment/thesis/dissertation, and teachers prepare class materials, research report, and scientific articles. All of these are examples of texts and proved that human will always need texts in their life. The questions are how human create these texts and use them? How we live and interpret life through text? The text can encourage human to think and live positively, or vice versa, which currently taking place in society when text is used as a tool to express criticism and insults. Prof. Tri Wiratno added that worse, text can be used to provoke and twist facts. The optimal condition is that text as a means to live life and give meaning to life.
“In creating and using text, related parties need to avoid confrontation and promote collaboration. In the education field, it is suggested that students are involved in creating and using text wisely by selecting words and formulating correct grammar according to the social and cultural context that develop in the community,” Prof. Tri Wiratno added.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Wahyudi Sutopo, ST, M. Si, the 223rd Professor in UNS and 14th Professor in FT UNS, delivered inauguration speech on ‘Challenges and Solutions for the Commercialization of Lithium Battery Innovation’. In his speech, Prof. Wahyudi Sutopo stated that various outcomes of technological innovation from research and development at the university must be maximally utilized to encourage economic development through commercialization. The challenges and problems in the product, process, innovation, and business can result in the level of technological readiness or TRL of the developed innovations failing to meet market criteria.
“This challenge motivated me, from 2012 I joined research and development of lithium battery focusing on the supply chain of technology commercialization,” Prof. Wahyudi explained.
Prof. Wahyudi added that there are five intervention options to increase the level of technological readiness faster and research outcomes prepared with the Industrial Engineering and Economic Techno Research Group and the Center for Information and Technology (Pusat Unggulan Iptek -PUI) Lithium Battery UNS. These options are technology standardization, incubation cycle, engineering, procurement, and construction of production facilities, material sourcing and selection, and distribution and marketing. These five options are framed within a framework fo strategy to solve the challenge of lithium battery commercialization.
Concerning the product challenge, product standard should not inhibit innovation but instead encourages innovation. On innovation challenge, it has to be promotable and sustainable through industrial commercialization. Process challenge speaks about the development of engineering, procurement, and establishment of production facilities with lower process cost. Lastly, the business challenge discusses the return of investment that exceeds the return from technological commercialization.
Until 15 July 2020, UNS has 124 active professors, 63 retired professors, and 36 deceased. Humas UNS
