UNS – Scientific Study Club Jong Scientist Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) held an online discussion with a theme on ‘Youth Active Participation Through Scientific Competition During Study From Home’. This event presents the UNS alumni who continue to study at the University of Leeds United Kingdom (UK), Rachmad Adi Riyanto, M.Sc on Sunday (10/5/2020).
The discussion held through WhatsApp Group call and was attended by UNS students from various faculties, discuss various scientific competitions at the university level.
“While we are staying home, we can diligently search for scientific competition information, can be through googling on certain keywords such as LKTI info, essay competition info, and many others. Most people become lazy when they are staying home, this actually increases our opportunity to be champion, we can achieve the first place among the productive people, because it was like as if our opponents are sleeping but we are ready to fight,” Adi, an alumnus from the Food Technology Study Program the Faculty of Agriculture (FP UNS), explained.
In this discussion, Adi reminded me that participating in a scientific competition does not always in line with interests and talents owned. Trying first is highly recommended. Moreover, for students who want to continue their studies using scholarships, students’ track record in participating in the scientific competition will give added value.
“Actually, participating in a scientific competition does not always in line without passion, the most important is to try first because the main requirement to be a champion is to register. Right, registering, join the competition, if we never participating then do not wish to be a champion,” Adi said.
The recipient of the LPDP scholarship from the Minister of Finance, then, explains the steps to join a scientific competition. Firstly, understanding one’s talent and interest. Then, set a detailed target, such as become the champion in a National Essay Competition.
Afterward, get an internet connection to search for the information on competition that will be joined. Do not forget to find the material for the competition. If the material is already obtained, immediately prepare for an outline to help in developing the idea and start writing. Afterward, read the material written and do an independent evaluation or with help from a mentor. The last step is to immediately register for the competition, do not pass the registration deadline.
