UNS – The COVID-19 pandemic does not discourage the students’ of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta to keep on crafting and achieving. On Monday (11/5/2020), good news comes from Yogyakarta. Three students of UNS have successfully achieved an award in a competition held by the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta, entitle “Competition From Home 2020, It’s Not Social Distancing, Just Physical Distancing.”
In this competition, which designed for internal UGM students and all Universities in Indonesia, there are 6,286 participants from 567 Universities from all across Indonesia. This national-level competition is divided into four categories creative educative video, an inspiring photo, educative poster, and an animation video. Three students from UNS earn an award in two different categories namely educative poster and creative educative video.
The three students are Alif Solihin a student of Fine Art Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Nur Hidayanti from the Fine Arts Study Program, Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD), and Arum Ambarwangi from Communication Science Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP).
Alif Solihin participates in the educative poster competition. The student from Fine Art Education Study Program presents an illustration of two Elementary School students who were conversed with a message on practicing physical distancing and wearing a mask. The poster created by Alif Solihin has successfully attracted the board of jury attention thus winning first place in the educative poster category.
Further, in the educative creative video, there is Nur Hidayanti who is a student from the Fine Arts Study Program FSRD UNS class of 2016. Alongside with some of her friends, Nur Hidayanti participates in the educative creative video category. Nur Hidayanti is delighted and does not expect that she can earn the result since there are many better works from other participants.
In the video that led her to be the champion, Nur Hidayanti is inspired by the mobile vegetable seller who always passes in front of her studio apartment every morning. However, due to the ongoing event, their fewer vegetables are sold, this inspires Nur Hidayanti to take the experience as the main topic and preparing a script. The filming video process, however, she collaborates with her friends.
“While looking at the UGM form, I found poster competition and thinking about the solution for the vegetable seller, thus they do not have to leave their house, which is safer,” Nur Hidayanti explains regarding the solution offered through her creative video. According to her, maintaining communication by telephone is in accordance with current conditions, because people are encouraged to remain at home. HUMAS UNS/Ratri
