UNS – In the industrial revolution 4.0, literacy skill is important to process information received to avoid hoax and producing a high-quality product from the literacy process. Responding to this, the Library of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, organize Information Literacy Class entitled How to Access e-Resources (e-Journal, e-Book, Digital Library, etc.) in Werkudara Room, UNS Library Building, on Thursday (6/02/2020).
The first material on the general description of the scientific journal frequently accessed by students was presented by Bambang Hermanto, S.Pd., M.IP. Afterward, technical aspects such as the journal’s description, who to log-in and access, and information about the Digital Library of UNS, this was presented by Sri Anawati, S.IP., M.IP. The last material was the steps on how to access the Scopus journal, which was prepared by Sri Utari, S.E., M.A and Riah Wiratningsih, S.S., M.Si.
The participants attended the event were the academicians, which consist of undergraduate degree students, postgraduate students, and doctoral students who also attended and listened to the material presented. At the end of the session, a question and answer were held to confirm the audience’s understanding of the material that was unclear.
When encountered by the uns.ac.id team, the Chief of UNS Library, Burhanudin Harahap, Ph.D., said that journal access is important, thus a workshop is needed to enhance students’ understanding of journal access to support their academics activities.
“Journal access is important because most scientific articles are published in the e-journal. E-book and e-journal even though most people still consider a book as a printed book, however, currently we started to shift to e-book and e-journal. Therefore, the students should be technically skillful, and understand the procedure on how to access e-book or e-journal quickly, precisely, and accurately. Without a workshop, sometimes the students need to do trial and error,” said Burhanudin.
One of the participants said that the information literacy class is useful and remind them to be careful in submitting their research article. “Especially for postgraduate students, we are expected to do a publication and there are also some postgraduate students who receive UNS scholarship and they are required to publish their research article in Scopus indexed journal. As we know, not many students know about Scopus, we heard that Scopus journals are difficult, takes a long time, and expensive. Moreover, there are issues that said the Scopus journal is used by irresponsible parties. Attending this event, we will be more cautious in submitting our articles,” said Mila Indah Rahmawati, a postgraduate student who attends the workshop. Humas UNS/Zalfaa
