UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has secured the 8th position in the Scimago Institution Rankings (SIR) 2024. The institution released a list of the top universities based on academic and research rankings using several indicators.
The Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information at UNS, Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D. stated that SIR utilizes three different indicators to determine the ranking of the best universities. These indicators include research performance, innovation output, and social impact through website visibility. In the SIR 2024 rankings, the social factor has been modified by incorporating several new indicators, aiming to reflect social impact more specifically.
One of the indicators mentioned is the generation of new knowledge related to the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations. Another important indicator worth highlighting is the participation of women in research. Furthermore, this indicator also looks at the utilization of its results in the formulation or improvement of public policies.
“Based on the ranking of these indicators, a total of 60 universities in Indonesia made it to the SIR 2024 list of the best. UNS occupies the 8th position among universities in Indonesia in this edition,” Prof. Irwan explained on Wednesday (17/4/2024).
It’s worth noting that institutions not only consist of universities but also include other entities such as healthcare institutions, government agencies, and companies. This year’s achievement by UNS has also surpassed several other universities, such as Padjadjaran University (Unpad) and the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in Surabaya. HUMAS UNS
