UNS — The Human Resources Development Center (UPT PSDM) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a public relations training activity with the theme ‘Optimizing the Use of Social Media as an Awaited and Trustworthy Source of Information’. The training, which featured Arnain Agustin, S.Sos, M.I.Kom., as a PR specialist from Monumen Press, and Sabrina Kusuma Dewi, a social media specialist from Turnkey ID, took place in the UNS Inn’s Madukoro Room, Tuesday (24/10/2023).
The PR Training was attended by Retno Purwaningsih, S.IP., Head of the General and Human Resources Bureau, Prof. Dr. Siswandari, M.Stats., Head of UPT PSDM UNS, and participants consisting of PR practitioners and PR officers from various units and faculties within UNS.
In her opening speech, Prof. Dr. Siswandari, M.Stats., Head of UPT PSDM UNS, emphasized the crucial role of social media in today’s society. She pointed out that people are constantly connected digitally, from the moment they wake up to when they go to bed.
“Everyone is practically glued to their phones nowadays. To ensure that the information they receive is accurate, it’s essential for individuals to use social media judiciously,” Prof. Siswandari explained.
Adding to this, Retno Purwaningsih, S.IP., the Head of the General and Human Resources Bureau, acknowledged the diverse and rapid flow of information that individuals receive daily, which sometimes includes false information, hateful content, or offensive news. “This has to be anticipated. PR practitioners must be capable of searching, processing, and filtering information to ensure that the information they produce is accurate and reliable. Through this training, we hope that social media can be used as a PR tool to effectively communicate information,” Retno explained.
During the PR training, the two speakers provided insights into the fundamentals of using social media effectively to help individuals and institutions build, understand, manage, and harness social media for the benefit of the community. HUMAS UNS
