UNS — As a university, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has a role in shaping future researchers and employees in Indonesia. Besides equipping their students with knowledge and competencies, UNS also equips its students with ample knowledge on the workplace through its Career Development Center (CDC) Virtual Prejob Training.
The event held on Thursday (26/8/2021) discussed many topics, including the current job market, the competition, and tips for students to get their dream jobs from various points of view. Two speakers were invited to the event, Fadjri Kirana A, S.Psi., M.A. (CDC UNS psychologist) and Retno Wulandari, S.H., M.Si. (General Manager The Sunan Hotel Solo). Fadjri Kirana shared the tips from the Human Resource Department point of view, while Retno Wulandari shared the perspective of the company’s executives.
Fadjri Kirana suggested that graduates should actively be hunting for a job to find their first job quickly. “You need to actively search for information about the jobs you want. Prepare a good portfolio in your social media; it is important,” Fadjri stated in the event held through the Zoom Cloud Meeting platform. Fadjri also encouraged soon-to-be graduated students to improve their CVs, optimize their social media, and find job information through the company’s website, job fair, or campus hiring. After collecting information, job seekers need to prepare an application timeline and prepare themselves well after applying. These preparations include improving skills or self-competencies through courses, training, or webinars relevant to their field of study. Applicants also could prepare themselves for an interview while waiting for a decision from the company.
When graduates have done their best, but the expected result has not come, Fadjri Kirana emphasized that they need to be patient. “Always remember the right man in the right place. When you are not accepted, it does not mean that you are not okay or unworthy. Maybe there are competencies that you need to develop further. Never stop learning,” Fadjri concluded. Humas UNS
