UNS – Jamu is a name of traditional medicine made of Indonesian herbal inherited from generation to generation. Apparently, Indonesian people still have interest in Jamu even there are so many supplements and vitamins that are sold everywhere. Jamu is a good choice for the modern society to protect bodily health. Jamu industries show their existence either. The total consumption of Jamu is predicted growing due the people started to move to herbal products.

Regarding this, Indrawati Kurnia Setyani took the advantage of the condition by developing her home industry, Jeng In jamu Homemade in Wedormartani village, Ngemplak, Sleman. She conducted entrepreneurship by producing fresh Jamu drink made of sour turmeric, sour sugar, and saffron-colored rice packed up in bottle. This business have been establishing since 2013 and got the certificate of food production of home industry from Public health Office of Sleman district.

Indrawati stated that the sour turmetin Jamu is the most demanded product among the consumers. However, the problem is the product cannot last long time, it only lasts up to three days kept in the refrigerator. Thus, the production cannot be conducted every day. Besides, the production still used limited tools so that less efficient.

In accordance with this problem, the community service team of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta who is led by Wisnu Kundarto, M.Biomed ., Apt with Dian Eka Ermawati , M.Sc., Apt and Yeni Farida , M.Sc., Apt conducted a cooperation with Jeng In jamu Homemade to modify the Jamu drink product being a shape of jelly candy. The team gave a help in the form of the equipment to develop production capacity on August.

“I thanked to UNS who financed this community service through the schema of the Program of Community partnership which is sourced from the fund of State Non-Tax revenue (PNBP) of UNS fiscal year 2019,” Wisnu explained on Tuesday (9/24/2019).

Wisnu added that the test result of organoleptic and the response towards the candy prototype showed that generally the texture, aroma, and color are accepted by the people. However, this prototype still needed to develop in terms of the taste due it is typically Jamu so that less sweet.

The team would always monitor and evaluate especially the prototype development in order to be a partner product verified that has more quality and worth selling. Humas UNS/Imron
