UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta signed a memorandum of understanding with PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III. The signing ceremony of the collaboration was held online through the Zoom Meeting application on Monday (11/1/2021). The occasion was attended by the Director of Human Resources Pelindo III, Edi Priyanto, Vice-Rector for Academic and Students Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, Vice-Rector for Management and Human Resources Affairs UNS, Dr. Bandi, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Affairs UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, and Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs UNS, Prof. Sajidan.
The ceremony was opened with the national anthem, Indonesia Raya, followed by the memorandum of understanding signing, a remark from both institutions, and closing. To sign the collaboration document, PT Pelindo III was represented by Edi Priyanto as the Director of Human Resources PT Pelindo III and Prof. Sajidan as the Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information UNS. Edi stated that the collaboration between Pelindo III and UNS would cover three areas, education, research, and community services.
“First, in education, the collaboration will be concerned with the learning process, field practices, lectures, and practices. As in research, the collaboration can be implemented through data collection and other activities that students and faculty members can utilize, and the result can provide benefit for both parties. In community services, the collaboration will cover the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),” Edi explained.
The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) kampus merdeka (independent campus) and merdeka belajar (independent learning) programs can strengthen the collaboration between higher education and the industry. Edi hopes that there will be a link between the education world and the industry through this collaboration.
“This collaboration is expected to develop company institutional activities and education quality to achieve Higher Education Tri Dharma. A lot of discussions should be conducted to reduce the gap between the industry and the education; therefore, the output (of education) is a student who is ready to work and enter the workplace,” he added.
The remark from UNS was delivered by Prof. Sajidan as the Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs UNS. He stated that UNS status as a university with a legal entity would provide flexibility in the autonomy both in business, academic, and non-academic matters.
“The collaboration with PT Pelindo III becomes a vital matter in implementing the kampus merdeka, merdeka belajar program. In the Rector Decree, the kampus merdeka, merdeka belajar activities, and professional certification institute are the programs we prioritized so that all of our study programs get international accreditation,” Prof. Sajidan conveyed in his remark.
Before closing the ceremony, Prof. Sajidan hopes that this collaboration can be applied to all UNS faculties, vocational school, and postgraduate programs after the memorandum of understanding are signed. “Hopefully (the collaboration) can be implemented with the Dean of Vocational School, Dean of faculties, or maybe from Pelindo some employees want to study Master.” Prof. Sajidan also mentioned that the collaboration also could be implemented with the Institute for Research and Community Services UNS.
