UNS — The Special Education Study Program (PKh), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, invites comical movie director Ucu Agustin, who currently resides in Washington DC. The international movie director was invited to watch a movie entitled ‘Sejauh Kumelangkah’ together and have a discussion on the movie. The event was held on Thursday (7/1/2021) through Zoom Cloud Meeting.

The event was started with an opening remark from the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, M.Si., who appreciates the PKh Study Program and Ucu Agustin. “My highest appreciation for the PKh Program and Ms. Ucu Agustin, who initiate to watch a movie with inclusive value,” Dr. Mardiyana explains.

Following the opening remark, the main event took place, with more than 150 participants attended the main event and discussion with Ucu Agustin. The participants are mostly academic staff of PKh FKIP UNS, PKh students, teachers from Special Education School, and the public.

The movie with 34 minutes duration has an inclusive version that provides voice description for visually impaired viewers. A closed caption also provided for viewers with hearing impairment to help them understand the movie, which won the Piala Citra in 2019 as the best short documentary movie.

After viewing the movie, that tells a friendship between Dea and Salsa, a discussion moderated by Ucu Agustin. During the discussion, Ucu admits that she wants to take on an inclusive issue to give it more attention. This objective is delivered beautifully through the ‘Sejauh Kumelangkah’ documentary. Even though the movie was successful, during the filming process Ucu must go back and forth between Indonesia and the US. All those sacrifices were paid off after the ‘Sejauh Kumelangkah’ production was finished.

During the discussion, there was an interpreter to help participants with hearing impairment to understand the discussion. This event organized by PKh Study Program can be considered as an inclusive event because all participants with different-ability can participate. After the discussion session with the moderator, a question and answer session is commenced. The event was concluded with a virtual photo session. Humas UNS
