UNS – The Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, under the command of the Vice-Rector of Student and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, consistently provide health assistance for the landslide victims in Bogor. After the second Medical Team returned to Solo on Saturday (25/01/2020), UNS deploy another medical team, the third phase Medical Team. This team is planned to be placed in UNS Posts in Cileuksa Village, Sukajaya Sub-District, Bogor.
The second Medical Team represented by dr. Jerry Indra Setiawan (a pulmonologist), dr. Dikha Dwi Putra (an internist), and dr. Johannes Naibako (psychiatrist) conveyed about the latest condition and the suggested actions to help the residents in the region.
“There are two areas reached by UNS Medical Team, which chosen as a location for a post, the Sipayung, and Cileuksa region. The assistance post in Sipayung is considered to have a better condition as it is located near a Puskesmas, thus the second Medical Team builds a post in Cileuksa. This location had only received minimum assistance and need a medical team to help the villager. The surrounding areas are still isolated due to the interruption of access to the location,” dr. Jerry said to the media, on Monday (27/01/2020).
dr. Jerry added that most of the villagers suffer Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (ISPA), Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), and gastrointestinal tract disorders. This was caused by the lack of fiber intake. Most of the food assistance was instant food and contains oil. Moreover, access to clean water was limited, which worsen the health condition. If there is no improvement in the condition, it was predicted that the next problem would be the spread of skin diseases, this would happen sooner considering the humid condition and the use of limited water by the mass community, thus accelerating the infection.
Not only physical health conditions, the UNS Medical Team also reported the psychological condition of the victims. As expressed by dr. Johannes, five patients with an unfavorable psychological condition, thus needing assistance from the medical team. Two of them immediately referred to the nearest hospital to get appropriate medical attention.
Alongside the UNS Medical Team, a few days later another assistance team from the Local Health Office and the Minister of Health that conducts a direct review on the condition of the health post. The UNS Medical Team gets an appreciation from the representative of the Minister of Health for their effort in helping the victims of landslide disaster in Bogor.
Meanwhile, the Head of UNS Student and Alumni Office, Rohman Agus Pratomo, added that UNS will not stop the assistance after sending the second medical team, UNS will deploy the third team to help the victims. The team will consist of 5 doctors, 2 Mapala Vagus of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNS, and 2 members of the SAR Team. The doctors deployed are pulmonologists, a specialist in skin and venereal, psychiatrist, and pediatrician. The addition of a pediatrician is due to the significant number of pediatric patients.
“We hope that this Medical team can help the community and will assist them until early February, Rohman said.
As a description of the condition in Cileuksa Village, the livelihoods of the villagers are mainly depend on the condition of nature and is currently stopped due to the disaster. The land that they could normally cultivate was now damaged and could not be planted. Several villagers still went to the field to find anything they can use. “Otherwise, there was nothing to do. Their activities depend on the volunteers who come to the disaster location. They are waiting for assistance and cooperation with the volunteers.
