UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta will hold 2nd-period graduation of 2020 online on the National Education Day on 2 May. This is in line with the Circular Letter Number 25/UN27/SE/2020 concerning Rector’s Policy on The Action to Conduct Academic Activities of the Even Semester 2019/2020 issued by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ahmad Yunus 20 April 2020.
The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho stated that the graduation ceremony procession becomes a momentum long-awaited by last year students after completing their study in the campus. UNS graduation ceremony usually holds directly in G.P.H. Haryo Mataram Auditorium UNS. However, this year the graduation cannot be conducted directly because of the physical distancing policy as the consequence of the COVID-19 outbreak.
“This online graduation is a breakthrough taken because offline graduation cannot be implemented as the result of social distancing implementation, (we are) not allowed to gather and hold an event,” said Prof. Jamal.
On the graduation ceremony implementation point is also explained that the registration of graduation extended until 25 April 2020 at 24.00 WIB. UNS facilitates the student to register for the graduation ceremony by completing administration requirements concerning diploma and transcript, other requirements can be completed when students take their diploma.
“This agenda is held as an effort to assist the student in the next stage. Because this diploma is important for the student to apply for a job and other purposes at the time like this,” conveyed Prof. Jamal.
The graduation ceremony will be attended by the Rectors and university management. Students who join the online graduation can access the provided website. Without reducing the solemnity of the ceremony, the transfer of graduation cap pigtail can be represented or carried out by parents of students. Information on how the graduation ceremony will be carried out will be announced separately.
Besides, the circular also explains the latest news on the academic activities in UNS. Online learning activities will be continued until 22 May 2020. Suggesting to the teachers to adjust their course schedule by implementing compacting lecture schedules or other means but still meeting the minimum standards of competency required. For last year students that the Master and Doctoral degree, the requirement to present thesis/dissertation result at the international seminar is not applied for the time being.
