FMIPA UNS Campus Talk, From Study Program’s Accreditation to Career Prospects

UNS – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an online Campus Talk entitle ‘Get to Know the FMIPA Universitas Sebelas Maret’, Thursday (4/6/2020) morning.

During the Campus Talk followed by SMA (High School) graduates both class of 2020 and 2019, FMIPA reviews in detail the profile of each Study Program, campus facilities, students’ potential development activities, students’ achievement, lecturers’ profile, as well as career prospects after graduating from FMIPA UNS.

FMIPA specifically wishes that the Campus Talk can help the prospective students to choose a study program when enrolling in FMIPA UNS.

The talk was opened directly by the Dean of FMIPA UNS, Harjana, Ph. D. In front of the participants through Zoom Cloud Meeting and the Official Youtube Channel of the FMIPA UNS, the Dean expresses that FMIPA has the vision to manifest itself as an internationally competitive faculty.

“The vision of the FMIPA is to be an educational institution that excels in basic and applied science at the national and international level,” Harjana, Ph. D., mentions.

Based on the FMIPA vision, Harjana explains that an appropriate number of the study program is needed to support the vision. Currently, there are 8 Study Programs in FMIPA UNS namely Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Physics, Statistics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics (Computer Science), and Pharmacy. Moreover, FMIPA UNS has 3 Postgraduate Study Programs; the Master in Chemistry, Doctoral Program in Biology, and the Doctoral Program in Physic.

“In FMIPA, we have a study program accredited by AUN-QA, the Undergraduate in Biology Study Program has met the international standard,” he explains.

Several speakers are also present in the Campus Talk, among others are the Head of Study Programs in FMIPA UNS, who explains the program’s profile, students’ achievement, academic staff’s achievement, and students’ potential development activities.

As explained by the Head of Undergraduate in Mathematics Study Program FMIPA UNS, Dr. Siswanto, the program has the vision to be a center for learning, research, and mathematics development based on the pillars of the philosophy of science.

“Based on the vision and mission, our graduate attributes are, among others, capable to solve mathematics problem, conducts abstraction and generalization, conduct a mathematics model, and capable to carry out mathematics computation and simulation,” Dr. Siswanto explains.

On the occasion, the Head of Undergraduate in Physic Study Program FMIPA UNS, Dr. Agus Supriyanto, also introduces the profile of the program in terms of collaboration with international universities. Some of the collaborations are implemented in the exchange of knowledge, both for the academic staff and students.

“We have mobility lecturers and students, as well as collaboration between the Undergraduate in Physic and international institutions such as University of SUNY Albany USA, Nagoya University Japan, Sheffield University UK, University Littoral cote d’Opale France, Kanazawa University Japan, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and Univeristi Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia,” explains Dr. Agus Supriyanto.
