UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held the Outstanding Student Selection (Pilpampres) through Zoom Meeting on Tuesday (9/6/2020). The occasion that took place at the Student and Alumni Bureau Building aims to screen students who have superior potential in the academic and non-academic fields. Later, the winner from each diploma and undergraduate level will represent UNS at National selection.
The Chief of Students and Alumni Bureau UNS, Drs. Rohman Agus Pratomo mentioned that UNS will provide assistance for the finalists who are chosen as UNS representation.
“We will prepare UNS representatives to be truly mature, there will be assistance in scientific writing, foreign languages, and portfolio preparation. Hopefully, this year we can pass 2 representatives to the national level,” explains Rohman.
The selection, which was planned to be held in March, was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this does not limit the spirit of all outstanding student finalists to keep fighting. After going through a document selection last week, the next step they have to go through today is the presentation of a scientific paper. In total 12 finalists are selected from both diploma (Vocational School-SV UNS) and undergraduate level, these finalists are entitled to participate in the selection of presentations.
One of the finalists from the Vocational School (SV UNS), Ruby Agil Hasan said that he was quite nervous because Pilmapres was held online.
“I also felt anxious for fear of losing the internet connection. Especially this is my first time joining a competition using online presentation, so it can be an experience when there is a competition using online presentation,” he expresses.
Regarding the obstacles, certainly, everyone has to get ready with their internet connection, the laptop supporting equipment, and a place that is not too noisy to be able to focus on the material presented. This event can also be used to evaluate the online competition held by UNS.
Agil reveals that he was constrained with the product he made because it cannot be tested in the laboratory due to the pandemic. “What important is to be mentally ready as I said before. Even though the competition was held online, but it is challenging. Thus, we have to be well prepared on connection, place, lighting, and device,” Agil adds.
The aspects included in the assessment process are 10 most outstanding academic and non-academic achievements, a Cumulative Grade Point Achievement Index (GPA), scientific papers, and foreign language skills. The achievements that can be included are competition or championship, seminar speaker, ownership of intellectual property rights, achievements in the organization, chairman of the committee, and many others. Each level of achievement has a different score, for instance, an achievement at international and national levels will have a different score. All aspects of assessment will be accumulated, therefore the outstanding students who are truly superior in various aspects will be obtained.
The announcement of winners will be held in the next two days after the plenary meeting of the jury. Through this Pilmapres, it is expected that there will be students who are able to be cadres or role models for other students to be excellent, especially in their respective faculties. Hopefully, the winner who will represent UNS at the national level can bring a maximum result. Humas UNS/Bayu
