UNS – The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, encourage the higher education in Indonesia to increase partnership in International Scientist Collaboration. This is conveyed by Prof. Jamal in Web Talk International Scientists Collaboration: Implement P2P (People-2-People) Relationship, Monday (15/6/2020) morning.
Prof. Jamal stated that International Scientists Collaboration can establish an improvement in National Innovation Index. Because compared to the other countries in ASEAN, the National Innovation Index of Indonesia is still low.
“Higher education in Indonesia highly needs the International Scientists Collaboration to produce researches that equal to the foreign universities,” stated Prof. Jamal.
As the Chief of The Council of Rector of Indonesian State University (CRISU), Prof. Jamal mentioned four principles of international collaboration that require Indonesian universities’ attention. First is the mutual relationship between researchers through the community in higher education. Second, have equal capabilities and facilities that make it easier to match the program. Third, establish an alliance between Indonesian universities and foreign universities in the form of consortium for implementing the collaboration. Fourth mutual understanding of the funding of collaboration and sponsorship.
In the online cross-country Web Talk through Zoom Cloud Meeting, Prof. Jamal explained that collaboration with international universities is a form of ‘Kampus Merdeka’ (independent campus) implementation promoted by Nadiem Makarim as Ministry of Education and Culture (Mendikbud).
“The form of collaboration is usually a student exchange, summer course (short visit), KKN (Community Service Program) collaboration, joint/double degree, joint supervisor for master and doctoral students, joint authorship for a scientific article, joint research, guest lecturer, and sabbatical leave,” explained Prof. Jamal.
In front of the Web Talk participants, Prof. Jamal also conveyed his expectation representing CRISU in the Indonesia-USA bilateral relationship in the field of education and research.
“Intensifying and increasing the number of partnerships with the USA universities through the endorsement of Education Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC involving international Indonesian professors and scientists in the Public Universities (PTN) as a form of visiting lecturer and vice versa,” Prof. Jamal stated.
Another expectation conveyed by Prof. Jamal is increasing the number of scholarships for Indonesian students in the USA, increasing the number of joint publications between Indonesian and USA universities, and two-way student exchange by increasing the number of US students studying in Indonesia.
