UNS – The UNS International Office Surakarta invited the Southeast Asia Regional Director of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World Rankings, Mr E Way Chong, to discuss UNS position in QS ranking in an online discussion on Improving UNS Ranking in the QS WUR and AUR, Wednesday (17/6/2020).
Based on the official information from the Chief of UNS, Irwan Trinugroho, Ph. D., one of the objectives of the online discussion is to prepare a strategy in improving UNS QS ranking. The discussion was opened by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho. In his remark, Prof. Jamal stated that UNS is determined to enter into QS World University Ranking (WUR) next year.
“Currently, UNS is ranked at QS Asian University Ranking. Various policies and strategies to accelerate the international reputation have been taken by UNS but harder and more sustainable works are needed,” Prof. Jamal stated.
In the presence of discussion participants through Zoom Cloud Meeting, Prof. Jamal invited the head of the university, deans, directors, chiefs of institute and bureaus to achieve UNS firm’s determination by building synergy in participating and listening to the material presented on QS ranking.
The QS Southeast Asia Regional Director, Mr E Way Chong, explained that there are four aspects of assessment in WUR ranking. These four aspects are research, learning, graduates’ employability, and internationalization.
“The largest component in QS WUR is academic reputation, especially at the global level, which is measured from the result of QS survey to the worldwide academics,” Mr E Way Chong explained.
He added that another large component is measuring the quality of research of a university through the citation of teacher’s academic papers in Scopus database. Mr E Way Chong also explained that graduate employability is assessed through QS annual survey on companies, especially multinational companies.
