UNS – Informatics Student Association (Himaster) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an online discussion on literacy and writing entitled “Read to Know the World, Write Known by the World”, through a Google Meet application, Saturday (20/6/2020).
The discussion presented Narendra Rangga Reswara, the author of ‘Artistika Manusia Seutuhnya’ as the main speaker. He considers that literacy can be analogized as a double-edged. “Literacy is like a two edges sword. If we read, write, we have a skill, we can solve problems, if we do not have the knowledge, then we will have a new problem,” Naren explains.
Literacy becomes a vital matter because it is related to the development of the information spread. Naren explains that if literacy has been well embedded, then when there is news released people will not easily believe the information, but trying to find a clarification to determine if the news is correct or not.
When asked about a memorable book, Naren mentioned that a book that memorable for him is the Essential of Physics, a book that accompanied him during his school days. Naren claims that he only started to know Indonesian authors such as Tere Liye and Salim A. Fillah after entering university.
Naren also shares tips and tricks in writing. There are two things that should be considered during writing first is to make yourself tempted to write and then force yourself to start. He mentioned that the temptations are not always in the form of a negative thing, but can be a positive thing. “We can tempt ourselves to do positive things, we can tempt ourselves for our dream,” says Naren.
For Naren, writing is a way to transfer goodness for other people. For instance, in the book ‘Artistika Manusia Seutuhnya’, he poured his real story that changed for the better. Naren finished the book within 3 months, even when he was lying in a hospital because of an accident that happened to him, instead of doing nothing, he began to write a book.
