UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students participated in the food sharing movement managed by Pati Peduli (Pati Cares) movement on Sunday (21/6/2020) if Pati District, Central Java. Pati Peduli community consists of the youth from Junior High School (SMP) students until 27 years. This community invites Pati youths to empathize and care with their surroundings.
One of the students of Interior Design Program Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) UNS, Irfan Nur Ikhsan state that the target of food sharing program is day laborers, preferably those who are old, such as scavengers, petty traders, peddlers, garbage officers, pedicab drivers, and displaced people in Pati District. Irfan is not alone, together with 17 other team members, he shares 85 packages of food.
Irfan admitted that he is happy when he can help others and get to know financially disadvantaged people. That way, his sense of empathy is honed. “Sometimes they rejected, several people, do not want to accept it because they suspected something negative. Especially during the pandemic, they are afraid of the foods are not sterile,” Irfan explained to uns.ac.id team on Monday (22/6/2020).
The food-sharing event is programmed once a month. There are several different activities each month. The food-sharing activity has been performed for five years from 2015. “Sharing foods will train our empathy in life so that we can be more sensitive and moved to help the existing problems,” Irfan stated.
Irfan wished that more people will be helped with the food sharing activities performed by Pati Peduli community and more people will join the activity. “We wished that more people will get helped and provided help through this activity,” Irfan concluded. Humas UNS/Zalfaa/Dwi
