UNS – The Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, held a curriculum reconstruction. The event was held both face to face and through online Zoom meeting on Monday (29/6/2020) with an objective to support the ‘Kampus Merdeka’ and ‘Merdeka Belajar’ program initiated by the Minister of Education and Culture, Nadiem Makarim.
Although the event was held face to face in FKIP UNS Building A, the event follow the applicable health protocol. The event was opened directly by the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, and started with a curriculum draft presentation by the Head of Biology Education Study Program FKIP UNS, Dr. Muzzazinah.
Dr. Muzzazinah states that creativity and innovation become a crucial keyword to ensure Indonesia’s sustainable development. “The current students in university need to be prepared to be true learners who are skilled, flexible, and resilient. The Permendikbud No. 3 of 2020 grants students the right to take a course outside their major study for 3 semesters, in accordance with the policy of an independent campus, ‘Merdeka Belajar’. Responding to this, a learning transformation is needed to equip and prepare university graduates to become a superior generation,” she explains.
This curriculum reconstruction is the first step to responding to the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 3 of 2020. Also present during this event a Comparing Team to provide input and corrections to the draft curriculum that has been prepared. The Comparing Team come from several universities, they are Drs. Suratsih, M.Si. and Dr. Paidi from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY); Dr. Sri Rahayu Lestari from Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), Dr. Rinie P. Puspitasari, from Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa), and Dr. Bambang Supriyatno from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI).
Aside from the Comparing Team, this event also attended by the Chair of the Indonesian Biology Educators and Researchers Association, the Chair of the Indonesian Biology Education Consortium, the Alumni of Biology Education Study Program FKIP UNS, the users of the Alumni of Biology Education Study Program FKIP UNS, students, lecturers, and the Head of Biology Education Study Programs from several universities in Solo.
