UNS – The student of Informatics and Computer Engineering Education (PTIK) Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Nur Hijrah Assalam Al-Ihsan, asked her neighborhood to implement a hydroponic system as an effort to maintain food resilience amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The issue of food resilience is selected by Hijrah as one of the themes in her Community Service Program (KKN) Covid-19 UNS batch 2. Hijrah who since 15 May to 30 June went through KKN Program realized the importance of productivity during work from the home period. With hydroponic, the community does not need to purchase vegetables from the market and thus, avoid Covid-19 transmission.
In correspondence with uns.ac.id on Wednesday (1/7/2020), Hijrah also explained another reason for selecting hydroponic, among others, the limited green open spaces, and that hydroponic has high opportunity to fulfil family’s nutritional needs. Hijrah said that from the start, she has a hobby of growing plants. From this hobby, she learns about hydroponic from internet tutorials and YouTube videos. She also observes her friend’s hydroponic plants to enrich her knowledge.
During KKN Covid-19 UNS, Hijrah plants various types of plant, starting from spinach, kale, and mustard. Hijrah stated that currently, she is entering the second harvest. After the harvest, this student achieved a bronze medal on Advanced Innovation Jam (AI-JAM) Japan 2019.
She shared her harvest to her neighbors as proof that hydroponic will bring real results. The targets of her KKN Covid-19 UNS program are her neighbors and internet users in social media. Hijrah revealed that this is in line with UNS instructions. Humas UNS
