UNS – Students of Craft Arts (Textile Design) Program Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta hold an online exhibition on Screen Printing Online Art Exhibition, Wednesday (1/7/2020), under the supervision from Dyah Yuni Kurniawati, M.Sn, and collected 105 works of 21 students from the class of 2017.
The online exhibition that aims to increase student’s productivity amid the pandemic despite working from home and run it through Instagram and YouTube. Screen printing is a cross-program practice hold by Textile Design program. In her remark, Dyah Yuni Kurniawati, M.Sn., as supervisor stated that fine art is the guardian of civilization from time to time and fine arts must still exist even under our current condition.
“Currently, the world asks for a piece of evidence that fine arts can exist amid the pandemic, collaborating with the media to maintain its existence. As academic members, the Covid-19 pandemic greatly affects our works, but we need to move on and overcome this. Pandemic is not a reason to stop creating, but it must encourage us to create,” she explained.
Elvin Setiowati, one of Textile Design FSRD UNS students who participated in the exhibition mentioned that her design has Solo iconic buildings as a theme, such as Pasar Gedhe, Pasar Gedhe clockwork, batik, maps, and signpost to Vastenberg fort, Pasar Klewer, and Mangkunegaran palace, which is applied on shirts and hoodies. Elvin spent significant time to create her work, the process includes brainstorming, conceptualization, reference, and completion. The 6th-semester student wished that students can keep creating amid the pandemic. Humas UNS
