UNS CDC Encourages Students to Take advantage of Internship Opportunities in SOEs

UNS – Career Development Center (CDC) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a webinar for socializing the Batch 2 Certified Student Internship Program (PMMB) in State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in Indonesia. The socialization was conducted online on Wednesday (15/7/2020) through Zoom Meeting by Dr. Ir. Kusnandar, M.Si., as the Chair of CDC UNS. The event attended by 200 UNS students discusses the PMMB program that will be opened on Thursday (16/7/2020).

The first batch of PMMB is involving 16,648 students to take an internship program in 146 SOEs, across 35 Provinces. Dr. Sapta states that this program can be applied as part of the Kampus Merdeka Program. The PMMB itself is initiated by the FHCI (Indonesia Human Capital Forum), which connecting BUMN with Higher Education that has been registered on the FHCI website. The SOEs listed on the FHCI website are the SOEs that previously signed a memorandum of understanding with FHCI. However, if UNS student wishes to take PMMB internship program, they cannot apply directly for the program on the FHCI website, but they need to apply through CDC UNS.

The application process for the program goes as follows, student apply for the internship program in CDC UNS, upon the application CDC UNS will send the student’s detail information to FHCI, following the submission from CDC UNS FHCI will conduct a match up between student’s background with the appropriate SOEs, and lastly, the selection result will announce whether the student is accepted in SOEs PMMB program or not.

There are two types of internship programs in the PMMB, industrial certified and competency certified internship. In an industry certified program, the students carry out intern activity based on the project given by the industry for 6 months. Interns are declared completion of the internship after finishing a certain work according to the time limit set by the industry, through the issuance of a certificate. Meanwhile, competency certified internship, the student focuses to carry out the program according to their field competence. Interns will take Competency Examination by the National Professional Certification Institute, in line with their field competence at the end of the internship program.

Dr. Kusnandar also explains how the PMMB works, “SOEs submit the number of internship positions required to FHCI. Internship selection is carried out by SOE.”

At the end of the event, Dr. Kusnandar hopes that UNS students will take this opportunity, as taking an internship program will improve student’s experience. In addition, there is a possibility of opening a career path in SOEs. Humas UNS
