UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta placed 5th in term of Student Creativity Program (PKM) funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) Republik Indonesia (RI). At least 103 proposals from UNS were granted funding from the program, which is twice the number of grants in 2019 with only 41 proposals funded.
In an online press release on Friday (7/8/2020), the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho congratulated students who win the funding. At the occasion, the Vice-Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo stated that the 103 proposals funded by the ministry consist of 5 proposals for entrepreneurship, 32 proposals for natural science research, 13 proposals for community service, 50 proposals for Karsa Cipta (copyright initiatives), and 3 proposals for social and humanities research. The grants were won by students in 10 faculties with the largest number of proposals came from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) with 41 proposals.
Prof. Kuncoro highly appreciated the hard works from students, supervisors, and UNS PKM Center to reach such proud achievement. However, he added that it is important to note that more hard works are necessary to ensure that these proposals can make their way into the national level. In the last year, UNS through its PKM Center has performed various efforts to increase the number of PKM proposals, one of which is by inviting national reviewers as speakers in PKM socialization. UNS also provided internal supervision for students.
“UNS is categorized in cluster 1 of universities and has maximum funding slots of 700 proposals. Last year there were 1,065 proposals submitted and reviewed by 125 reviewers. Only 677 proposals were ready to be uploaded. We focus on quality because only 677 proposals meet the criteria, only those proposals were uploaded into the system,” Prof. Kuncoro stated.
Following this announcement, UNS will provide intensive internal supervision and monitoring and evaluation from external parties. UNS will also provide a bailout for students who need funding for their program before they receive their grants from the ministry. Humas UNS
