UNS — Happy news from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students who won the first position in Innovation Concrete Competition (ICC) 3rd DISCO held by Universitas Diponegoro (Undip). This ICC has a theme of Innovation of Lightweight Concrete, High Quality and Eco Friendly. The three UNS students in a team named ‘Semar Adhideva’ are Ganesha Wibisono Lubis, Maulana Kangko Wicaksono, and Muhammad Naufal Muslim from Civil Engineering Program UNS. The ICC 3rd DISCO competition started in October but the final round was postponed to 10 – 12 August 2020 due to the pandemic.
Under the supervision of Dr. Eng. Halwan Alfisa S, S.T., M.T., the three students formulate research on ‘Utilization of Rice Husk Ash Waste as Geopolymer Concrete Binder and Eggshell Waste as Filler in Eco Lightweight Concrete’. Husk ash is unused waste that has pozzolan silica compound which can be used as a binding material in the geopolymer concrete created by Maulana’s team. Similarly, eggshell has high CaO compound that will increase the compressive strength of early life concrete. The innovated concrete has high durability, environmentally friendly, and high economic value. Maulana admitted that he is happy and proud to present the achievement for his university. He and his friends hope that they can develop this innovation so that it can be applied in daily life. Humas UNS
