UNS – Six students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta innovate comestibles from rice bran. These students are the members of a group for Student Creativity Program in Community Service (PKM-M) that won funding this year. The initial step that they took is disseminating information to the target community in Plosorejo Village, Matesih Subdistrict, Karanganyar District through a socialization program on Friday (28/8/2020). The socialization program was attended by the member of Dasawisma Dahlia Putih Group in Plosorejo Village.
The Community Service Program has six members who are students from different programs. The students are Nurul Fadhilah, Cahyani Fahmiati, Puspita Annisa Utami, Rofiq Sulthon Febriansyah, Yasmin Afifah, and Yunita Anggraini.
One of the members, Puspita Annisa Utami from Agricultural Extension & Communication Program (PKP) Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS stated one of the factors in selecting partner village is the main potential in the agricultural sector. The main product of Plosorejo village is rice. During the process, there is a waste in the form of rice bran. “We have the initiative to process the rice bran into functional and healthy food product instead of animal feeds. We will process the rice bran into cookies pastries,” she explained on Friday (4/9/2020).
They implemented the program to improve and process the potential of rice bran in partnership with Dasawisma Group in the village. Puspita added that they want to increase the productivity of Dasawisma Dahlia Putih Group through their community service program. The first step they took is socialization, followed by online training and assistance to process rice bran into a food product. Puspita hopes that the PKM-M program can improve the skill and income of Dasawisma Dahlia Putih members. Humas UNS
