UNS – Alumni Association (IKA) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held another Wedangan online inviting alumni from Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD). Six alumni from FSRD UNS were invited as speakers in Wedangan IKA UNS Seri XXI held on Wednesday (2/9/2020). The invited speakers are Ahmad Adib PhD., UNS Faculty Member, Dra. Niesdri Hastani Welsh, an international artist, Galih Reza Suseno, M.Sn a national young artist, Drs. Bambang Heru Suharto Retailer and New Opening Store Consultant, Triwahyu Edi, S.Sn Head of Division Bangunan Yodya Karya and Bambang Cahyo Murdoko, S.Sn., M.Hum, the Director of Finance, Management, and Public Communication, Badan Pelaksana Otoritas Danau Toba (red: Badan Otoritas is an institution that receives authority from the national government to manage 10 priority destinations in Indonesia).
Led by Dyah Yuni Kurniawati, M.Sn from FSRD UNS and Vice-Chief of KAFSRD Alumni, A. H. Al Hadhy, S.Sn, M.Si, as moderators, this agenda discussed ‘The Role of Fine Arts and Desing as Creative Industry Sector in Developing Indonesia Tourism’.
In this wedangan, the speakers shared experience and artworks. A performance from humor music group whose members are UNS alumni, PecaS Ndahe, was inserted between the discussion. Each alumnus retold their experience while pursuing a career in the creative industry at national and international level. The alumnus of FSRD UNS 1981, Dra. Niesdri Hastani Welsh shared the story as a painter in the USA. ‘Titik Api’, a group of FSRD UNS alumni represented by Bob Djoko Sudarwo, the alumnus of FSRD UNS 1980 also attended the occasion. Several artworks in the form of painting, ceramics, and sculpture, from FSRD alumni, were presented using virtual media.
As the next speaker, Galih Reza Suseno, M.Sn. discussed the impact of artworks on the development of the creative industry and tourism. For example, the role of Ada Apa Dengan Cinta (AADC) 2 movie that brought up the tourism in Yogyakarta and art exhibition ArtJog that presented artworks from small and large galleries in Indonesia. Other alumni of FSRD explained that prospect of a career in other fields. Ahmad Adib, Ph.D who is also FSRD alumnus, for example, works as Faculty Member in FSRD UNS. He stated that FSRD alumni can contribute to the creative industry, especially in supporting Surakarta tourism. Drs. Bambang Heru Suharto, the alumnus of FSRD 1984 shared the role of visual branding in re-awaken tourism sector in the pandemic.
The alumnus FSRD 1988, Triwahyu Edi, S.Sn stated that there are projects that he and team participated in, for example as construction management of Wisma Atlet Kemayoran Jakarta. Last but not least, the alumnus FSRD 1990, Bambang Cahyo Murdoko, S.Sn., M.Hum explained that currently, the government of Indonesia is developing 10 priority destinations and 5 excellent tourism destinations.
