UNS — The Islamic Activity Center (SKI), Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organized a National Seminar in Improving Da’wah Creativity During the Pandemic. This national seminar was conducted through online platform meeting Zoom and Youtube Livestream in SKI FIB UNS channel, Saturday-Sunday (12-13/9/2020). A famous book author Habiburrahman El Shirazy, Lc., was invited to deliver a speech on how important it is to have outstanding youngsters involved in da’wah. According to him da’wah is a huge duty, “Da’wah is a huge duty and whoever dares to take on this big task, they will be entitled as someone who takes the best position in the eyes of Allah,” Kang Abik, a familiar nickname for Habiburrahman El Shirazy, explains.
He added that the individual who carries out da’wah is walking on the same pathway as the prophet. Therefore, this activity becomes a noble assignment, thus not everyone dared to take up this task. When someone understands the essence of da’wah and as well as earnest and intent in conducting da’wah, thus it is certain that da’wah is the duty of the chosen people. Further, Kang Abik explains that da’wah can start from improving oneself because da’wah also reflects the lights of goodness. There is an Arabic saying ‘faqidusy syai la yu’ti’ that means ‘thus who do not have anything is unable to give’, this saying refers to a person who does not have the soul of sincerity can not encourage or teach about sincerity. This shows that as a preacher (carrying out da’wah) one needs to live the knowledge conveyed.
At the end of the session, Kang Abik emphasizes that students who decide to carry out da’wah need to be outstanding. “If you, my fellow students, are passionate about the Islamic activity on campus, my suggestion is to maintain the balance, academic achievement, show that you can be a role model in many ways. There should be no stereotypes ‘activists have unfavorable achievement’. This is not da’wah, this will weaken the da’wah. It is the real da’wah, even without us talking we are considered doing da’wah,” Kang Abik concluded. Humas UNS
