Magetan Government Prepared a Location for UNS for a Collaboration

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the District Government of Magetan on the Synergy of Planning and Implementation in the Field of Education, Teaching and Human Resources Improvement to Support Development in Magetan District East Java Province. The Memorandum of Understanding signing was performed directly by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho and the Regent of Magetan, Suprawoto in Meeting Room 2, dr. Prakosa Building UNS, Friday (18/9/2020).

Before signing the Memorandum of Understanding, the Regent of Magetan and entourage enjoyed the morning air by cycling around UNS campus, accompanied by the Rector of UNS and team. The Regent of Magetan, Suprawoto in his remark stated that he is happy to be able to sign the Memorandum of Understanding with UNS as one of the best public universities in Indonesia. He also admitted that he was surprised to know that UNS has Benteng Pancasila area. Suprawoto shared that there are not many universities in East Java, especially in the western part. For example, there is no university in Magetan District.

“Surabaya has a public university, Malang has one, Jember has one, but Magetan does not have one? Magetan only has Academy of Midwifery and Environmental Engineering Academy,” Suprawoto stated. Therefore, Suprawoto continued, it is an opportunity for UNS to set up a campus in Magetan, which will facilitate Magetan people to pursue education. Suprawoto also stated that they will provide land for UNS if the university is interested to establish a unit in his District. Besides, many other projects can be performed in the collaboration between the local government and UNS. One of which is water management, regional development, agriculture, and tourism.

Responding to this, the Rector of UNS appreciated the signing of Memorandum of Understanding and for the local government of Magetan who has provided 20 hectares of lands for UNS. He also mentioned that he will give an instruction for the Director of Vocational School (SV) and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering to work on the proposal. Prof. Jamal hopes that through this collaboration, will bring benefits for both parties. Humas UNS
