Smart IT Fest 2020, Diploma Program of TI SV UNS Showcasing Sangiran and Lokananta VR Innovations

UNS — The Diploma Program (D-3) in Informatics Engineering (TI) Vocational School (SV) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta showcased their innovation in virtual reality (VR) Sangiran and Lokananta online in Smart IT Fest “Product Innovation from D-3 TI as a Solution amid the Pandemic in Collaboration with Industry”, Saturday (10/10/2020).

The innovation of VR Sangiran and Lokananta is created by D-3 TI Program SV UNS as a means of history education and to bring museum closer to the community which up to today, is still closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “The VR Museum Sangiran and VR Museum Lokananta application are the forms of innovation from the education field to achieve ‘Vokasi Kuat Indonesia Jaya’ (red: strong vocation for prosperous Indonesia) with the industrial fields,” the Head of D-3 TI Program SV UNS, Hartatik S. Si, M. Si, stated.

In the Smart IT Fest held through the Zoom Cloud Meeting and YouTube stream, Hartatik S. Si, M. Si, explained that VR Sangiran been in development since 2010, while VR Lokananta started to be developed in 2019 and have been applied this year through a community service program. On this occasion the D-3 TI Program SV UNS invited the Director of Lestude Grup, Septandho Hijri, to review the sophistication and features of VR Sangiran and Lokananta. After trying VR Sangiran and Lokananta, Septandho Hijri, conveyed that the innovation has a good quality and an overview of the museum in question. “We can feel the situation there (red: Museum Sangiran). I am interested in the fossils and when I want to read the information, it feels as if I am physically in the location,” Septandho Hijri conveyed.

The user of VR Sangiran and Lokananta will be assisted with the direction and navigation spot that direct user to each room, information, ancient simulation and fossils location. Besides, users will also be assisted with vocal guides that explain the detail of information of the museum until the collections of the museum. For the development of VR Sangiran, the innovation is a form of research collaboration and student final assignment of D-3 TI Program SV UNS with Early Man Site Conservation Center (Balai Pelestarian Situs Manusia Purba – BPSMP) Sangiran.

There are several AR and VR application innovated in the digital development of Museum Sangiran. The examples are the launching of virtual Museum Sangiran in Sangiran cluster, Bukuran cluster, Dayu cluster, Manyarejo cluster. The D-3 TI Program SV UNS also develops innovations that aim to add public knowledge through fossils guessing VR game, game AR Battle Card Fossil, and virtual guide AR Museum. Humas UNS
