UNS — A Faculty Member of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Monika Sri Yuliarti, S.Sos., M.Si. were granted the title of the Best Trainer on Information Literacy. This honor is granted to Monika for the digital literacy campaign concerning hoaxes in the virtual workshop “Information Literacy on COVID-19 Pandemic in Indonesia” held by Women in Engineering-IEEE Indonesia and the Association of Women/Gender and Children Study Centers (Asosiasi Pusat Studi Wanita/Gender dan Anak Indonesia – ASWGI), on Saturday (31/10/2020).
Monika was elected over the 34 trainers in Indonesia and this is inseparable from the role of Research Group (RG) Komunikasi Strategis (Strategic Communication) FISIP UNS and the Population and Gender Research Study Center (PPKG) UNS. Monika shared that her journey started in early August 2020 when she was assigned to represent PPKG to participate in the workshop in early August 2020. The workshop participants were then granted an opportunity to implement their knowledge. Monika shared her insight through a webinar, social media update, and offline workshop which of course, implement health protocol. Two topics were raised in the offline workshop are “Fact-Checking and Digital Hygiene” Strengthening the Digital Literacy for public relation of Islamic Boarding School in Solo Raya and “Citizen Journalism to Counterattack Hoaxes” for Karang Taruna (Rural Youth Association) Hadiluwih, Sragen.
“The tips to conduct a campaign on digital literacy as an implementation of WIE-IEEE & ASWGI workshop is by using the language of your target concerning digital literacy. For example, to correct hoax in your WhatsApp group, a person needs to choose polite words so as to not to embarrass people who shared them, and to shows respect, especially if those who shared it are senior,” Monika stated.
Monika and other two trainers, Susiana, S.Si., M.Si. from Universitas Negeri Medan and Dr. Diah Rahayu, S.Psi., M.Si. from Universitas Mulawarman had an opportunity to present their implementation activities during August – October 2020. These three trainers shared their activities in implementing their knowledge through webinar, workshop, and dissemination of information through WhatsApp Group. The occasion was attended by the Chief of Women in Engineering – IEEE Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ir. Riri Fitri Sari, M.Sc., M.M. who stated that this event is an example of optimizing the role of women in providing education on the utilization of technology to solve social problems. In her opinion, specifically, the focus of this project is improving the information literacy concerning Covid-19 which is conducted through pentahelix approach. Humas UNS
