UNS — Another excellent accomplishment was made by the students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. This time around, the UNS team ‘Semar Abyakta’ from the Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS succeeded in reaching 3rd place in the National Concrete Competition Civil Expo (CIVEX) organized by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) 2020, which held virtually through Zoom meeting.
Under the supervision of Prof. Stefanus Adi Kristiawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., the team consisted of Irza Kusuma Addien, Dimas Luvi Zuniatama, and Atilla Salwa, use rice husk ash waste, silica fume, and silica sand on the Ultra High Strength Reactive Powder Concrete (UHSRPC) mix.
“In general, the cement industry creates huge pollution. Therefore, in our research, we try to innovate using materials to replace cement and have great strength. In the end, we found the combination of rice husk ash waste and silica fume as the replacement of cement, while silica sand as the replacement for fine aggregate,” Irza explains to uns.ac.id, Wednesday (25/11/2020).
After presenting their idea on Saturday (31/10/2020) and preparation for 2 (two) months, the Semar Abyakta Team was announced as the 3rd champion on Sunday (1/11/2020). Irza reveals that they do not expect this achievement and are grateful for the achievement.
Even if they managed to win 3rd place, Irza mentions that their team members were tied-up due to the upcoming mid-semester test. Representing his team members, Irza hopes that this achievement can add to their experience, contribution to the civil engineering field and can motivate them to compete and win another championship. “Hopefully, there will be more championships we can participate in and win, either at the national and international level,” Irza hopes.
