UNS — The Master Program in Bioscience Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta obtained the A-level accreditation from National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). The accreditation result was announced in BAN-PT Decision Letter (SK) Number: 6852/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-PPJ/S/XI/2020 concerning The Accreditation Rank of Master Program in Bioscience UNS signed by the Director of Executive Board of BAN-PT, T. Basaruddin on October 2020.
In the accreditation process, the Master Program in Bioscience needs to complete the required documents for re-accreditation. The assessment was conducted online with three assessors from BAN-PT, Prof. Dr. Tati Suryati Syamsudin, DEA from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Prof. Burhanudin Arafah from Universitas Hasanudin (Unhas) Makassar, and Prof. Dr. Yosephine Sri Wulan Manuhara, M.Si (Department of Biology) Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya.
The Head of Bioscience Program FMIPA UNS, Dr. Ari Susilowati stated that the preparation for accreditation had been conducted for a long time involving the students, alumni, alumni users, faculty members, accreditation task force, academic staff, service unit, quality assurance unit for program management at postgraduate school and FMIPA, and the Chief of Institute of Educational Quality Assurance and Development (LPPMP). Further, Dr. Ari added that even though they were apprehensive, her program obtained the A-level accreditation with hard works and confidence.
“At first, I was anxious and apprehensive if we failed to obtain a maximum score, but I also believe that Bioscience Program has a good quality and can get the A level accreditation,” Dr. Ari said, Thursday (3/12/2020).
During the preparation process, LPPMP UNS provided assistance through the External Quality Assurance System (Sistem Penjaminan Mutu Eksternal – SPME). At the faculty level, two internal assessors also assist in the preparation. The accreditation result indicates that the Bioscience Program has excellent quality because assessors provide highly efficient assessments in each item in the form. Dr. Ari conveyed that the taskforce successfully convinced the assessors that the program implements the current scientific approaches in molecular biology, NGS (Next Generation Sequencing), isozyme with SDS page and nanotechnology, and in vitro culture of animal and plant cells. They delivered this information by showing a video of laboratory works and students’ thesis and teacher’s research.
“Assessors were also satisfied and happy during the dialog with the students, alumni, and graduate users,” Dr. Ari added. She also said that this success is inseparable from the hard works from various units, starting from the management of Postgraduate Programs, the executive board of the university, and FMIPA.
