UNS — The Green Campus Team from the Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a Focused Group Discussion (FGD) on ‘Toward Green Campus Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS Through Green Governance and Behavior’, Saturday (5/12/2020). This FGD was held as a preliminary step in the preparation of a road map that will be involving all parties to participate, including the Faculty leaders, Head of Study Program, academic staff representative, and students. Specifically, this event also discusses the potential, challenges, and obstacles in realizing an FT green campus under the UI GreenMetric indicators.
To provide direction and guidance on Green Campus, the FT UNS invites the Chair of UI GreenMetric, Prof. Riri Fitri Sari, and the Deputy Chair of UI GreenMetric, Junaidi, S.S., M.A., as panelists. On this occasion, Prof. Riri states that higher education institution has a potential human resource and knowledge to solve global challenges. There are seven steps in establishing a program toward a green campus. “There are seven steps that can be done such as green campus committee, environmental assessment, target achievement process, information distribution, and participation, as well as green charter,” Prof. Riri explains.
Based on the material presented by Prof. Riri, the FT UNS Green Campus team reviewed the sustainability concept previously implemented, both in governance, operational, and green behavior. This matter becomes the responsibility of the FT UNS Green Campus Team, because on December 7th, 2020, UNS was established by UI GreenMetric as the 7th (in rank) Best Sustainable Campus in Indonesia.
The second speaker, Junaidi, S.S., M.A., delivers material on the technology implementation in growing the awareness of green behavior. “Preparation of infrastructure supported by green technology, indeed, requires a huge cost. However, in the future this investment will be followed by a reduction in a significant operational cost,” Junaidi states.
He added that infrastructure preparation with green technology needs appropriate facilities. This aims to accommodate the academic members’ contributions to achieve the predetermined target. “The effort in involving many parties to identify the potential and problem, as well as collecting ideas, suggestions, input as well as criticism through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD), is not only become a media to take a look on the omitted problems but also to identify potential that has not been maximized properly,” he added.
Junaidi, S.S., M.A., specifically hopes that this FGD will be able to encourage the collaboration among the faculty members, students, and academic members in FT UNS. Thus the great potential can be optimized toward FT UNS Green Campus. Humas UNS
