Official Introduction of UNS Student Olympiad: 25 Competitions Opened

UNS — Student Olympiad Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta (Olimpus) is officially introduced online through UNS YouTube livestream Instagram @uns.official, Friday (18/12/2020). Olimpus is a student event initiated by Student Association (Keluarga Besar Mahasiswa – KBM) UNS.

This event is a combination of Sebelas Maret Olympiad (OSM – Olimpiade Sebelas Maret), Student Appreciation Festival (FAM – Festival Apresiasi Mahasiswa), and SEF (Sebelas Maret Education Fair). Olimpus has four branches of competition in sports, arts, science, and student appreciation. The branches are divided into 25 competitions, including futsal, badminton, football, table tennis, chess, athletic, basketball, e-sports, dance, fine arts, literature, essay, scientific writing competition, infographic, speech, debate, awarding, campus ambassador, and regional community.

The opening and branches of the competition were explained by the Olimpus Chairman, Alwan Adhirajasa Yoga. He stated that the competition would involve all students as representatives from each faculty to compete. “The system is similar to the competitions in general. But the representative will bring their respective faculty pride with them,” Alwan stated.

To uns.ac.id, Alwan said that this year Olimpus has the theme of “New World View of Middle Age” inspired by the book on European History. He hopes that the history of past scientists and their works will encourage UNS students to participate in the competition and to innovate.

Olimpus will start in March 2021 and will be held online due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2019, Olimpus successfully built collaboration among students to participate in the competitions. Last year Olimpus was won by the Faculty of Engineering (FT). Faculty of Sports (FKor) was the all-around champion in sports, Faculty of Engineering also won the arts and culture competitions, and Faculty of Medical Science (FK) was the overall champion in the science branch. During the closing ceremony on 24 November 2019, Olimpus enliven UNS Stadium with a music performance from The Overtunes and Dhyo Haw. Humas UNS
