UNS — Wonderful news comes from the Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta since its three students won the National Scientific Writing Competition (LKTIN). The competition entitled Mechanical Engineering Expo (MEE) was organized by Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) 2020. The UNS students incorporated in the ‘Sewu Wae’ team are Eryneta Nurul Hasanah (Javanese Language Education Study Program), Abdul Azis (Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program), and Ayuni Diah Melani (Local Literature Study Program). The team name ‘Sewu Wae’ is an acronym from ‘Serat Wulangreh Jawa Elektronik (Electronic Version of Serat Wulangreh).’
In the competition organized by the Executive Student Board (BEM) in Mechanical Engineering Study Program UNJ, the team takes on the idea of Serah Wulangreh digital application. The title of their work is SEWU WAE: Innovation for Javanese Culture Revitalization and Character Development in Millennial Generation through Android Application-Based Serat Wulangreh.
“We had established the application prototype and it’s been tested on the respondents. The content of the application covers the contents of Serat Wulangreh such as content-related articles, characters, video, audio, and pictures of Serat Wulangreh manuscript in Javanese characters,” Eryneta explains in an interview on Tuesday (29/12/2020).
The MEE competition was started with a registration, which opens from November 20th, 2020 to December 5th, 2020. The top 10 announcements were made on December 8th, 2020 in @expomesinunj Instagram, followed by the grand final on December 11th, 2020. The winner of the competition was announced two days after through Instagram account and Zoom Meeting.
The Sewu Wae Team always brings culture as its theme when participating in any competition. The cultural values are always integrated into technology advancement to add innovation value. “We want to preserve Javanese culture by introducing it to the wider community, among others by participating in this type of competition. Moreover, the topic we choose happens in the Javanese community,” he explains.
Sewu Wae Team hopes that their fellow students will always keep up the spirit and not just live with the flow. “Whoever and however we are, keep up the spirit, do not only live by the flow without objective but also control your life with positive things, thus we will be able to understand the meaning of Javanese proverb ‘urip iku urub lan mupangat marang sapadha’ (meaning: life is a flame and benefiting other),” he concluded.
