UNS — The Alumni Association (IKA) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organized another wedangan IKA UNS. The virtual discussion on Wednesday (30/12/2020) brings up a topic on ‘UNS Television in the Era of University as a Legal Entity (PTN BH).’ On this occasion, IKA UNS invites three alumni of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNS with an outstanding track record in the communication and television broadcasting field. The speakers are Abdul Kohar (President Director of Metro TV Lampung), Irwan Setyawan (Chief Editor of Jawa Pos TV), and Dr. Sri Hastjarjo (Academic Member from FISIP UNS for Communication Study). This time, the discussion also invite Sofie Syarief (FISIP UNS Alumni class of 2020) as moderator, who currently working as a Metro TV news anchor.
Also attending the webinar is the UNS Vice-Rector for Partnership and Planning Affairs, Prof. Sajidan, as the representation of the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, in delivering opening remarks. Prof. Sajidan expresses that UNS alumni are the partner in developing the campus. He also expects creative ideas from alumni, thus the UNS journey as a University with Legal Entity (PTN BH) will be smooth and fastening its effort to reach World Class University.
“We will develop UNS TV according to the current requirement. With the flexibility of PTN BH besides as students’ learning media in the Kampus Merdeka era, Merdeka Belajar will also bring outstanding achievement for UNS. Hopefully, the UNS TV program can educate both the academic members and local society,” he explains in the remarks.
The first speaker, Abdul Kohar, shares tips to maintain television media to have a long life. Many parties predict that TV broadcasting will be one of the disrupted industries. “The advancement of internet, online media, and digital media, made the television broadcasting staggering,” Abdul Kohar explains. He further gives several options for UNS TV, based on his experience in Metro TV, to maintain its operation.
“There is one spirit, optimistic and togetherness. Optimist in encouraging successfulness, there must be a determination to achieve the objective. Afterward, focus, the optimistic attitude from UNS TV has been established since the TV 11 branding. This means that the determination is formed already, after that, it must be followed by a focus,” he adds. For instance, Metro TV is focused on news television, thus they must be consistent in this field. After focus, there must be high endurance, thus UNS will be more persistent in developing a television channel.
The second speaker, Irwan Setyawan, shares his experiences in the television broadcasting sector. He states that the television broadcasting industry is a creative industry that needs high-quality Human Resource (HR). “The qualified HR is formed through competency and experiences, the longer someone working on a field, their skill will be more trained. Creativity usually comes from the youngsters, a campus is filled with the young generation, thus the campus should be the main supporting factor for the television broadcasting industry. Because this is the place where qualified HR and creative content are created,” he adds.
The last speaker, Sri Hastjarjo, is presenting the UNS TV development plan as a business unit and start-up incubator. “The idea is to establish a laboratory inside the campus, which not only serves as a learning facility but also a business unit, as well as a medium for UNS branding in the public eye. Thus, the TV will not only aim to generate income but also a media for UNS PR,” he explains.
The planning for UNS TV includes the establishment of a training center, production house, broadcasting, and start-up incubator. Humas UNS
