UNS — The student of Law Science Program Faculty of Law (FH) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Zakky Musthofa Zuhad, was elected as the President of Student Executive Board (BEM) UNS 2021. Zakky’s election as President BEM UNS was announced by the Election Committee (KPU) UNS on 30 December 2020.
In the next one-year period, Zakky will be accompanied by Abdullah Alhaddad from the Development Economics Program Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNS as Vice-President BEM UNS.
After elected, what are Zakky programs planned in the next period? Contacted through a short messaging service on Wednesday (27/1/2021), the new president answered the inquiries surrounding his election and future programs. He admitted that his candidacy was encouraged by students’ restlessness towards university student issues, regional issues, and national issues. He also faces a dilemma over his stage of study completion as he in his final year. After weighing his options to benefit others, he chose BEM UNS to deliver his services. Concerning Abdullah Alhaddad’s election as Vice-President, the newly elected president stated that they shared a vision. He also needs Abdullah’s ability to manage BEM UNS from the inside.
There were 29 programs offered in his campaign, including the Forum Perempuan (Women Forum), Semar Apps, Festival Start-Up, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) International Conference. Forum Perempuan aims to provide a room for UNS female students to works while answering the fifth point in SDGs regarding gender equality. He wants to provide a forum for students to support one another. “Also, to educate the society who nullify women’s extraordinary roles,” he explained. He believes that women should educate themselves through education.
The second program, Festival Startup, is inspired by a large number of internet users in Indonesia. He added that it is time for university students to be aware of the digital economy and that the community received great benefits from technology. He hopes that the festival will help UNS students to understand startup deeper, how it works, how important it is, and its future opportunities. “We need a program that encourages students to understand the digital economy,” he stated.
The third program is the International Conference on SDGs, formulated to answer his concern about climate change. The international conference is a means to invite external parties to meet SDGs’ points regarding environmental sustainability. He added further that the Social Section in BEM UNS would handle this plan. He hopes that the forum will promote awareness that environmental sustainability cannot be achieved alone, but it should be a collective effort from countries worldwide.
The last program, Semar Apps, is created and offers nine main menus, including Hallo UNS, Survey, UNS Care, and Media Partner. “We will develop the features further,” he added.
